Nyepi Segara: The Sacred Day of Silence at Sea

Nyepi Segara is a sacred Balinese tradition observed annually in the waters of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan. The date follows the Balinese calendar and therefore changes each year. In 2026, Nyepi Segara will be observed on September 27.

During this special day, marine activities, including boat crossings, snorkeling, diving, and other activities at sea, are temporarily suspended for approximately 24 hours. This tradition provides a meaningful moment of silence and reflects the Balinese philosophy of maintaining harmony between people, the sea, and nature.
